UPDATE: While it was originally reported that Kelly Osbourne responded “or weed” to Giuliana Rancic’s controversial critique of Zendaya’s hair, Osbourne took to Twitter to assure fans it wasn’t her. “I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT,” she tweeted Tuesday (Feb. 24).
E!’s Fashion Police took their criticism on celebrity style too far when discussing Zendaya’s look at Sunday’s Oscars. The singer/actress rocked dreadlocks and a Vivienne Westwood gown to the 87th annual Academy Awards.
During a post-Oscars episode of E!’s Fashion Police, Giuliana Rancic offered an offensive comment on Zendaya: “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil.” “Or weed,” someone says off-camera, initially reported to be co-host Kelly Oscourne.
“Maybe weed?” Rancic chimed in.
Zendaya took to social media to respond to Rancic’s comments and took the opportunity to touch on society’s ignorance regarding black women’s hair.

“To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or ‘weed’ is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive,” she wrote. “There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.”
Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!

Rancic offered an apology (kind of) to Zendaya on Twitter saying that she was talking about her “bohemian chic look” and it had “nothing to do with race.” “I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!”
Kelly Osbourne also took to Twitter to address the matter (kind of also) and to alert her followers that “Zendaya is my friend.”
I WILL NOT BE DRAGED INTO THIS! The situation is being rectified like ADULTS by both parties. I hope you can leave it to them & do the same!
