Waka’s “Bustin’ At ‘Em,” off his 2010 album “Flockaveli,” was being acted out before a 17-year-old was shot and killed earlier this week.
Douglas Trey Winslow, a 17-year-old teenager, was shot and killed recently by a 22-year-old man named Rodney Clay Patrick Jr., while the two were reportedly acting out the lyrics to Waka Flocka Flame’s “Bustin’ At ‘Em,” according to WESH.
The incident happened at Patrick’s home in Merrit Island, Florida this past Monday night (January 26). The following day (January 27), Patrick was charged with manslaughter.
“According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Rodney Patrick was acting out the lyrics of a Waka Flocka Flame song when he picked up a gun he thought was unloaded and fired it,” WESH reports.
According to the NY Daily News, Patrick told the operator that Winslow had accidently shot himself.
“I handed my little brother my gun, and I didn’t know it was loaded, and he shot himself in the head,” Patrick said on the 911 call. “He just wanted to see it. He thought it was so cool. I thought I had cleared it and everything…This is so bad. I’m such a horrible person.”
However, after further examination of the scene, investigators subsequently determined that it was Patrick who pulled the trigger.
In addition to manslaughter, Rodney Clay Patrick Jr. faces charges of tampering with evidence and possession of the prescription drug, alprazolam. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life.
