Silento made a big debut at No. 33 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this week with “Watch Me,” his first (and only) release, which saw an 85 percent increase in streams in the past week.
Why? Videos from fans who decided to follow his instructive lyrics — “watch me whip, watch me NaeNae” — and share the results on Vine (and eventually YouTube) resulted in 2.6 million domestic streams for the new artist. Though the song was released just two months ago, everyone from cheerleaders to stuffed pandas are whipping and NaeNae-ing (and doing the Stanky Legg!) to Silento.
