Mike Huckabee referred to Beyonce as “mental poison” in his new book and slammed the Obamas for letting their daughters listen to the Grammy Award-winning singer. The new Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa poll asked likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers whether they agreed with Huckabee.
The question asked: “In his recently published book, Mike Huckabee criticized the singer Beyonce, calling her ‘mental poison.’ Do you think Huckabee is mostly right about Beyonce or did he go too far?”

Forty percent of the Republicans polled thought Huckabee was “mostly right,” while 38 percent thought he went too far and 22 percent were not sure. For Democrats, 81 percent thought he went too far, 6 percent thought he was mostly right and 13 percent were not sure.
Another question referenced Huckabee’s insult toward President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama: “Mike Huckabee said the Obamas were guilty of bad parenting for allowing their daughters to listen to Beyonce’s music. Do you think Huckabee is mostly right about the Obamas, or did he go too far?”
On this issue, the majority of the people polled agreed. Sixty-one percent of Republicans thought he went too far, with 23 percent thinking he was mostly right and 16 percent saying they were not sure. Ninety-five percent of the Democrats thought Huckabee went too far, only 2 percent thought he was mostly right, and 3 percent were not sure.
The poll interviewed 402 likely Republican caucus-goers and 401 likely Democratic caucus-goers on a variety of issues.
