Partner – “Sex Object” “Everybody Knows”

Partner is the project of Josée Caron and Lucy Niles, a pair of gifted goofballs from Ontario whose alternative-era six-string theatrics remind me of nothing less than Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream, though they’re just as likely to cite the “lesbian superfecta” of k.d. lang, Melissa Etheridge, and Tegan And Sara. Their upcoming album In Search Of Lost Time appears to be a gleaming guitar onslaught that piles on both punchlines and sludge, with Caron and Niles unafraid to crack jokes at their own expense in between melodic shred sessions. Consider, for example, new single “Sex Object,” a story of poking around in your roommate’s bedroom only to discover something you wish you hadn’t, or prior single “Everybody Knows,” an absolute anthem that includes the lyric, “I was too high to be left alone on the internet, let alone out in public.” It’s all just completely delightful, so listen below.

In Search Of Lost Time is out 9/8 on You’ve Changed Records.
