The screams were loud and the slime was falling at Saturday night’s (March 28) annual Kids’ Choice Awards, hosted by Nick Jonas and held at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Winners included Disney show Austin & Ally, Modern Family, Emma Stone and Angelina Jolie, who gave an inspired speech about daring to be different after accepting her award.

Before the show, celebrities were cheerful on Nickelodeon’s orange carpet, despite the heat.

Iggy Azalea, whose duet with Jennifer Hudson was one of the show’s three performances, talked about what to expect on the carpet. “This is a set,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Probably the best set that I’ve had. We’re just living in it and having so much fun together, and I’m really excited for everybody to see that.”

Azalea was not nervous about potentially getting pranked. “I’m prepared to get slimed,” she said. “I wrote it in my treatment — I want to get slimed!” Sadly, her wish did not come true.

Austin & Ally‘s Laura Marano, who just became the first pop artist to sign with Taylor Swift‘s label Big Machine Records, took home the awards for favorite kids TV show and favorite TV actress. On the carpet, she praised the fans. “I know everybody says this, but Austin & Ally fans really are the best,” she said. “If we win these awards, it will be a testament to them.”

Inside the venue, the show kept the energy high with “dance parties” and free T-shirts shot into the crowd of kids and tweens during the commercial breaks. Those watching at home also missed the swarm of dozens of crewmembers who used towels and squeegee mops to clean up each slime outburst as celebrities presented the awards elsewhere onstage.

Jolie, who was making her first public appearance since her surgery announcement, was the star of the celebrity pen. She happily chatted and took selfies with the younger celebrities, who flocked around her during each commercial break.
