Hip Hop Week In Review: Drake, Birdman, Daylyt

Drake takes over the spotlight with a surprise album drop and ensuing rumors about his Cash Money status.

After a huge week in Hip Hop last week, Drake took over headlines this past week with a surprise album drop and fueled rumors about his current status with Cash Money in the meantime. Meanwhile, 50 Cent lambasted Epic Records for not providing financial support to Bobby Shmurda while the young rapper is behind bars, Lil Wayne’s daughter opens up about her experiences with Birdman, and Nicki Minaj squashes rumors about her dating Meek Mill.

Drake Releases Surprise Album

Less than a week after the surprise release of If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, Drake broke a first-week Spotify streaming record and sold nearly 500,000 copies of the retail mixtape.

Speculation that the OVO captain would release a surprise mixtape began on Thursday (February 12) when DJ Skee Tweeted, “BTW, Drake should be dropping his mixtape tonight.”

Drake Leaves Birdman & Cash Money Out Of “IYRTITL” Thank You’s

While Drake’s latest album release caught everyone by surprise another revelation was tucked into the LP’s accompanying handwritten note.

Along with the album drop, the Toronto native released a handwritten letter claiming his album was made for friends and associates.

Everyone from the Raptors to RiFF RAFF get mention but noticeably both Birdman and Cash Money remained unlisted.

Daylyt Threatens Tyga Over Drake Disses

Squirming his way into the headlines yet again, Dalyt recently offered a warning for Tyga given some of his recent words for Drake on Twitter.

“I just want to make some shit known and make some shit loud and clear and niggas better get my message,” he said in an interview with VladTV. “Tyga, all that shit, just let it go… I don’t wanna see no more tweets, none of that shit my nigga. Like I told ya’ll I’m fucking with Drake. I fuck with the OVO movement. It’s official my nigga so it’s ride or die and I’m riding or dying with OVO. I don’t give a fuck about you from Cali. That shit don’t mean nothing to me bro.”
