Daddy Yankee talks new album King Daddy, reggaeton going back to its roots.

Daddy Yankee recently released his latest album, El Imperio Nazza: King Daddy Edition, which debuted at #1 on iTunes.

The reggaetonero had revealed that he’d be going back to his roots for this, and now he says that the overall genre is following his footsteps.

During an interview with People en Español, Daddy Yankee said he gave his fans what they’ve been asking for hardcore reggaeton songs which are “100 percent raw.”

“I have evolved with the genre, but at this moment everything is going backwards,” he said. “It’s a cycle where there were many changes and now people are asking for these classic sounds. Now everyone is returning to its basics and I have never stopped being in the root.”

So what does this mean for the future of reggaeton? Yankee said it’s about giving the fans the urban, classic tones of the genre.
