Young Thug and Nicki Minaj among the artists Gucci has gifted with a co-sign.
Although Atlanta, Georgia rapper Gucci Mane once notoriously called out the likes of Waka Flocka Flame, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, and Drake in a Twitter rant several years ago, the Southern wordsmith has also given out a number of cosigns throughout his music career.
This week, HotNewHipHop listed those cosigns as part of their “The GuWop Effect: A History Of Gucci Mane’s Co-Signs” list. Among the artists mentioned are OJ Da Juiceman, French Montana, 2 Chainz, and Young Thug.
Gucci Mane’s friend-turned-foe, Waka Flocka Flame is one of the nearly dozen artists featured on the list. In their story, HotNewHipHop brought attention to the fact that Waka was forced into the studio and later the spotlight when Gucci was put in jail.
“While Waka may seem one of the most obvious artists put on by a Gucci Mane co-sign, he’d tell you otherwise, and he wouldn’t be wrong,” the list says. “Introduced to GuWop through his mother, and founder of Mizay Entertainment, Deb Antney, Waka spent a lot of time learning from Gucci, but it was actually the desperation his family faced when Wop was in jail that got him in the studio. The money trouble that resulted from Gucci’s absence forced Waka into his first hit, ‘O Let’s Do It’, and by the time Gucci was released, it actually helped him jump right back into regional stardom.”
